Washington, D.C. USA 1873 ~ San Juan, P.R. 1934
There are three interesting versions about the origin of our national anthem. In the decade of 1860 it was known as “Bellísima Trigueña”. By 1868 Lola Rodríguez de Tió changed the lyrics turning it into a revolutionary anthem, which was prohibited by the Spanish government. In 1903, Manuel Fernández Juncos wrote the lyrics we know today, which became our national anthem in 1977.
