Antonio Paoli y Marcano
Ponce, P.R. 1871 – San Juan, P.R. 1946
Antonio Paoli y Marcano was known as “The King of Tenors and The Tenor of Kings”. He achieved prestige on opera’s stages around the world. He possessed a powerful, vibrant and clear voice that he handled in complete control due to how he mastered his breathing. He also stood out for the neatness with which he pronounced the different languages he sang in. He was one of the first lyrical artists born in America—and some people may say the first—to reach international fame. One of his dreams was to establish the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico, which came to be established years after his death.
